Finding Balance


consigli_170822-2-38.jpgWe’ve all heard people talking about trying to find or create balance in their lives. Why is it being talked about SO MUCH? Simply because, EVERYONE is trying to find it. The dictionary has a variety definitions: 1) “an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady”, 2) “a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions”, and 3) “to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall.” All three of these definitions are technically correct – but how do you YOU define balance?

Personally, it’s taken me years to figure out what the word “balance” truly means to me and it is something that I have to work at EVERY day. Figuring out ways to create balance in my life while juggling the numerous things I have going on every day is absolutely a PRACTICE. There are some days I run around doing things for everyone else and forget to check in with myself. Days like that leave me feeling stressed, irritable and burnt out. I try to avoid days like that, but sometimes I simply get caught up in the daily chaos. It’s just how life goes sometimes.

There are SO MANY ways to create balance in your life. It is defined differently for everyone, so finding your own definition is important. One of the biggest tips I will give you, is to do ONE thing for yourself every day. Whether it’s something big or small. Think about something that you LOVE to do, something that makes you forget about what’s going on in the world around you because you love doing it so much. Whatever that is, DO that. EVERY. DAY. Even if it’s only for 5 minutes, just DO IT. And yes, I know it’s easier said than done to do things for ourselves in this crazy- busy, fast-paced world. BUT if you make it a priority and make time for it, it can be life-changing.

At the end of the day, finding balance is about doing little things for yourself that prevent you from losing your damn mind. It’s about checking in with yourself, listening to your body and what it needs. Figuring out how to balance ALL of the things you have going on in your life can seem overwhelming, believe me – I can relate. And to be completely honest, things won’t stay balanced 24/7, it’s just not realistic. So if you feel like you need a break – GIVE YOURSELF ONE. Take a bath, get a massage, spend some time outside, eat a cookie – just do something for YOU.
